Complaints
Concerning Attorneys
In
many states, bar associations have disciplinary
authority over attorneys. This is not the
case in Tennessee. Instead, the
Tennessee Supreme Court has established the Board
of Professional Responsibility to
receive and investigate complaints about
attorneys and to discipline attorneys who are
found to have violated ethics rules. To
contact the Tennessee Board of Professional
Responsibility, call (615) 361-7500.
Fee
Dispute
The
Nashville Bar Association DOES
have a procedure in place to help clients and
attorneys resolve disagreements over legal fees.

Dispute Procedure

Everyday
Law: FAQ
The
Nashville Bar Association has developed a series
of seven pamphlets on legal topics of general
interest. This series of pamphlets is called Everyday
Law. The pamphlets were originally
printed in 1994 through a generous grant from
The Kroger Co., which also allowed distribution
through their supermarkets in the Nashville,
Tennessee, area. The entire series was
updated in 1997, and the complete text of the
updated pamphlets is now available on-line.
The information contained in Everyday
Law may apply specifically to Tennessee
jurisdictions, but much of the information and
suggestions may also be useful to residents of
other states.

Legal
Aid & Pro Bono
Nashville
Pro Bono Program and the Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee
Nashville
Pro Bono Program is a non-profit charitable organization
that matches low-income clients with volunteer
attorneys willing to handle cases without
expectation of payment. The mission of the Legal
Aid Society of Middle Tennessee is to enforce,
enhance and defend the legal rights of
low-income and elderly people.
Both
programs provide legal advocacy and education to
obtain necessities such as health care, housing,
income, protection from family violence, and
access to basic goods and services. We address
those problems which have the greatest impact on
our clients because of either the nature of the
problem or the number of persons affected.
